Schroeder Romero & Shredder

Schroeder Romero
& Shredder
Welcome to the Future
Schroeder Romero is thrilled to announce Schroeder Romero & Shredder, a new partnership seeking to redefine the way you look at contemporary art. Shedding the old model of what once defined a contemporary art gallery, Schroeder Romero & Shredder will open an exciting new space in early 2010 where two exhibitions will run side by side, encouraging a unique dialogue between the past and present.

This new hybrid program will be comprised of an exhibition of a contemporary artist's work buttressed by an exhibition of related historical material, responding to, or providing a new, deeper context. Imagine, Michael Waugh and German woodcut prints; William Powhida and Daumier, a stinging satirical duo; or Laurie Hogin and the fabulous 18th century Meissen porcelain monkey band. The possibilities are endless—and at times wildly unexpected—as we connect the multifarious dots of art history in exciting and surprising ways.

Schroeder Romero & Shredder will inaugurate our new adventure and gallery space with “Queening,” an installation of new works by Brice Brown, including sterling silver tables cast from a re-purposed 19th century example. The accompanying exhibition will feature works by Marcel Duchamp, among others.

This is a time of renewal. The question of art has never been what is hot. The question has always been, what endures.

Unsolicited submissions will not be considered at this time.

    New Location/New Program

Schroeder Romero & Shredder is thrilled to announce our new gallery location at 531 West 26th Street. We are very excited to bring our dynamic program to this redesigned 4,000 square foot space—our largest exhibition space ever! We are equally honored to share the block with wonderful colleagues such as George Adams, James Cohan, Sara Meltzer, Robert Miller, Tony Shafrazi, Galerie Lelong, Mixed Greens and Pace Prints, and look forward to sharing our projects with this prestigious neighborhood.

Schroeder Romero & Shredder is a new hybrid that wants to redefine the way you look at art. Combining the contemporary work of Schroeder Romero’s artists with important historical works from Shredder, we will present dual exhibitions running contiguously, encouraging a unique dialogue between past and present to create a multilayered and timeless experience. It’s a whole new way of looking at contemporary and historical works of art. Imagine: Michael Waugh and German woodcuts; William Powhida and Daumier, a stinging satirical duo; or Laurie Hogin and the fabulous 18th century Meissen monkey band. The possibilities are endless―and at times wildly unexpected―as we connect the multifarious dots of art history in exciting and surprising ways. We will also have a Kunstkammer style viewing room of available fine and decorative art.

We will officially launch our new space and program in October with a solo exhibition of Brice Brown’s new work titled “Queening” in the Schroeder Romero space, while examples of 19th century Sèvres porcelain and photographs from the French Royal Court will be on view in the Shredder section. For questions on our new space, future exhibitions, and press information please contact us at 212-630-0722 or info@srandsgallery.com, or find us on the web at www.srandsgallery.com.  Please also follow us on facebook and twitter for updates on all our developments and projects.
